September 26, 1919. The news breaks on Wilson

Woodrow Wilson was ill.

Very ill.

Far sicker than the public imagined, and with this news, they must have been imagining a lot.

Wilson was not a well man.  His health had been bad for years and he had been the victim of prior strokes.  In modern times, his health would have disqualified him from consideration for his role as President.  But in 1919 those things tended to be poorly understood.

So he was being transported home to Washington D. C. with the fate of the Versailles Treaty in jeopardy.

His south of the border adversary, it was reported, was now accepted as the senior rebel leader.
