Wednesday, October 6, 1926. World Series Record.

Pennsylvania''s blue laws from 1794 were invoked in Pittsburgh, banning all Sunday sports in the city.

This is interesting in a variety of ways, particularly in that it takes a very Puritan view of the topic.  In Catholic England sports on Sunday had been a huge deal, part of the Catholic view of life that Sunday, the Lord's Day, was a sort of feast.  Puritans, however, held a dour view on everything, and during the Cromwellian period, banned sports.

All in all, for what it's worth, I think blue laws are a good idea.  I wouldn't ban sports, however.  I would, if I could, shut down Sunday commerce however, even electronic commerce.

Babe Ruth hit his third home run in the 1926 World Series.  The Yankees beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10 to 5.  This has only been repeated twice, once in 1977, by Reggie Jackson, and once in 2011, by Albert Pujols.
