25th Amendment Watch, 27th Edition. CliffsNotes of the Zeitgeist 162nd Edition. "The Case Against Donald Trump Emerging in the Epstein Files and DOJ's Desperate Efforts to Cover It Up"

I'm only going to post excerpts of this.  It'd be too long to post the entire document, and you can look it up.

The excerpts are enough.  The rest, however, does really set the tone.  Much of what it notes, we have noted here before.

Let's jump ahead here.

I'm reminded in this about stories about the Playboy Mansion and some of the people who attended parties there. Bill Cosby, Jim Brown.  This went on for a long time.  Hefner even managed to escape being exposed during his lifetime.

I'm particularly reluctant to accuse people of horrible acts simply based on reporting  But here, in order to believe there's nothing to this, we have to wilfully disregard the women involved.

Is it possible this is all a fable? Well, such things can occur, although by this point this would be an extraordinary fable.

Be that as it may,  Trump is now 80 years old.  He's destroyed the Republican Party, which has gone from being a Conservative Party to a Fascist Party.  His dementia is crossing over from the noticeable stage to the raging stage.  So, what will occur with all of this, given the status of his mind?

He remains the purported President of the United States and in that capacity he's steadfastly refused to cooperate in the release of the Epstein files.  All the current poll data suggests that the GOP is going to lose the House and may very well lose the Senate.  If the Senate remains in GOP hands Trump is safe from impeachment.  If there's a "blue wave", as some feel there may be, he isn't.

It's not that there would be so many Democrats in office that they could impeach him on their own.  No, rather, it's to what degree the remaining Republicans in the Senate, and the House for that matter, would be willing to cling to a sinking ship, or if you prefer in Trump terms, to be on a sinking electric car in which there are sharks in the water.  After the election, the GOP is going to have to take stock on the results, and if things are really bad, and they look like they may be, the same noodle backed politicians who have gone along with Trump will be looking to save their jobs.  Some will switch over to being anti Trump in that effort, if a solid reason to do so is presented.

The story of Beatrice Keul provides ample reason to do so.  She's a named adult, and has little to profit by having revealed her story.  Indeed, she's the former Miss Switzerland.  While I'm not a fan of pageants, having a title such as that lends credibility to her accusations.  And the accusations are brutal.  She maintains that she was ushered into a private suite and that Trump grabbed her from behind and outright raped, not groped, her, leaving her bleeding as a result.  In order to discount this, you have to be willing to believe that Keul just flat out made this story up.

The story about the 13 year old is so horrific that if it is further developed, and is true, that would certainly provide ample reason to impeach Trump, as well as an ample reason to prosecute Trump.  That story, as noted, has been out for awhile and so far has not been deemed sufficiently established, however.

When the Democrats take the House, it will undoubtedly be the case that these stories will be more fully developed.  MAGA's will howl.  It's like Rebecca Bextel believing that NASA hasn't made it to the Moon, knowledge is a dangerous thing and would hurt their world view.

If the blue wave is big enough, and it it looks like Trump will drown in it, both big ifs. that brings us back to the 25th Amendment.  It's the saving door for Republicans.  If the cabinet comes out and states, "gosh, he's nuts", there will be no impeachment.  He'll be ushered out the door, and a grateful nation will quit looking at the wreck.

But on the upcoming election, candidates strongly backing Trump, or backed by him, have to answer for this.  That's very difficult to do.  If you say you flat out don't believe it, you have to provide a reason for such certainty, which is different from having doubts.

A person can't just turn a blind eye to rape.  If there's reasons not to believe these stories, and they are now cumulative, what are they?

Kiddie Porn and the library.

People reading my comments on the illegitimate claimant to the Oval Office and the Wyoming Freedom Caucus, and indeed the general drift of Republican politics in this state, all of which are causing the ghosts of Mussolini and Franco to wonder "aren't they a little extreme?", may simply assume I'm a liberal, and that I oppose everything conservatives are doing.

They're wrong, I'm a social conservative, but anyhow. . .

For those holding that view, this post will surprise.

Panel advances legislation restricting sexual content in Wyoming library books: The Judiciary Committee voted 11-2 in support of the measure, and the issue unified Wyoming Freedom Caucus lawmakers with Republicans not always aligned with them.

Committee Adopts Bill Greenlighting Lawsuits Over 'Sexually Explicit' Library Books

Here's the bill:

I have my doubts about the constitutionality of this effort, but I think this effort is worth it.

In spite of what people might say, some of these books are absolutely horrific.  Without detailing how I know it, two of the books that keep coming up in this discussion, Gender Queer and This Books Is Gay do not belong in the children's section of any library and frankly should only be in a limited adult section at that.  I don't overall object to them being in a library, but frankly the common assumption that they are aimed at "young adults" is correct.

Gender Queer is a "graphic" book, i.e., cartoon.  It depicts a scene in which a friend instructs another teenage friend how to stick a finger up a vagina, and that's not all.  This Book Is Gay is basically a homosexual sex manual for young people, complete with badly done illustrations.

Seriously?

This gets right to the roots of the culture wars.  Basically, the authors of these books believe that you are a homosexual from the second you are born, if you become one later, or even really if a person ever ponders such activity.  This is to "help" them get past what the authors regard unfortunate mental roadblocks.

The psychological support for such a view is basically nonexistent.  Homosexuality itself, while it occurs in all cultures, is particularly prevalent in the cultural West, so much so that in China its regarded as a Western thing.  At one time it was so associated with English public (that is to say private) boy's schools that it was called "the English disease".  We really don't grasp it all that well.

And frankly what we don't need to do is to push teenagers who might be pondering it, outright into it, which as a society is exactly what we are in fact doing.  Books like this help to do that.  They're Gender Queer is practically designed to do that.

Libraries have always restricted sexual content to the young. . . until recently.  I remember years ago reading an article in the Denver Post about how the Denver Public Library kept Playboy and a Buddhist sex manual in an area where you had to ask for them, with those publications being the two most requested in that section. The point is, they didn't keep bound volumes of Playboy down in the children's sections for teenage boys to peruse, even though a person could argue that it was just as instructive as those struggling with their sexuality as these texts.  And, moreover, any teen asking for either one of them would have been told to pound sand.

All this comes, as these articles make plain, against the background of a lawsuit over the topic that was just settled.  Not "won", but settled.  One ironic element is that the librarian spoke out hoping that her settlement, which is a settlement (i.e., she didn't win, or lose, the suit) would discourage the legislature from passing this bill.

Really?  It ought to encourage them to pass it.

The Best Posts of the week of July 13, 2025. The Epstein Week.

Sex dominated the headlines this week, including one sexual scandal, the CEO and his mistress at the Cold Play concert, which we didn't really bother with much.

Trump took us back to the story of privilege and Hebephilia and Ephebophilia.1

The sad, really, state of affairs for American Men.

The big three met, with one new player.

Flannery O'Connor gave some reading advice.

I hope you don’t have friends who recommend Ayn Rand to you.

I hope you don’t have friends who recommend Ayn Rand to you. The fiction of Ayn Rand is as low as you can get re fiction. I hope you picked it up off the floor of the subway and threw it in the nearest garbage pail. She makes Mickey Spillane look like Dostoevsky.

Cy Young set an enduring record.

Cy Young of the Cleveland Naps became the only Major League Baseball pitcher to record 500 wins, in a 5–2 win over the Washington Senators.

MAGA just won't let Epstein go.

We pose a query:

Then and now. Two shirtless sailors.

We posted this today.  After I did, something occurred to me.

Able Seaman Chadwick trimming the beard of Engine Room Artificer Jones, aboard HMAS Hobart.

Anybody notice anything interesting regarding these (Australian) sailors that we'd be unlikely to see in photographs of young men, at least American young men, today?

Bad news:

Footnotes:

Eh? What are those terms.

Hebephilia is the strong, persistent sexual interest by adults in pubescent children who are in early adolescence, typically ages 11–14.  It's a controversial category and is not universally accepted by psychologists on the basis that, in their view, most men are attracted to some degree by pubescent females.

Ephebophilia is a primary sexual interest in mid-to-late adolescents, generally ages 15 to 19 and showing Tanner stages 4 to 5 of physical development.  Obviously, if Hebephilia is somewhat controversial, Ephebophilia is as well.

Basically, things break down as follows:

By Bruce The Deus, Andreas Mokros - Own work based on Andreas Mokros (2017), “The Chronophilia Conundrum: Continuum or Epiphenomenon?”, in archive of Sex Behaviour, DOI:https://doi.org/10.1007/s10508-016-0882-4, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=144677942

At least so far, everyone agrees, seemingly, that anything below the Hebephilia category is flat out weird.

Irrespective of whether the two categories should be in the DSM, which is where the debate lies, in the US older men dabbling below age 18 is illegal, with some peculiar exceptions we won't go into, and most people regard it as flat out immoral, even now.  It seems to be the last aspect of sexual morality retained from our Christian heritage.

We've been squeamish about dealing with it here, but it probably needed noting.  A lot of what Western Society has been dealing with in terms of sexual scandals in the last thirty years actual deals with adult men being attracted to teenagers, which isn't pedophilia as its commonly claimed to be.

That doesn't excuse it, and maybe noting it is pedantic.
