Thursday, August 11, 1910. Birth of the OAS.

Participants in the Pan-American Conference in Buenos Aires voted to create a Pan-American Union, which became the Organization of American States.  Originally it was to be headed by the U.S. Secretary of State.


The boundaries between the Belgian Congo and German East Africa were established.

Sunday, August 15, 1909. The Martyrdom of St. Isidore Bakanja


Congolese St. Isidore Bakanja died as a result of the beatings of his employer who attempted to force him to stop wearing the Brown Scapular and proclaiming the gospel. 

St. Pope Pius X became the first Pope to ride in an automobile.
