Washington, February 13, 1911.

Your telegram of the 10th instant. Department informed by Embassy at Mexico City that Mexican Government does not just now desire to ask for permission to move troops over United States territory.

Troops under Jose Luis Moya took Durango.  55 years old, and therefore into advanced years by the standards of the day, he was an unusual example of a wealthy man who joined the revolution.  He'd lose his life in its service in May, 1911.

Today In Wyoming's History: February 13: 1911  Campbell County created.

A coal and hydrocarbons producing county, the population of the county has grown by a factor of nearly ten since my birth, and doubled since I graduated from high school.  I vividly recall going there for swim meets in the late 70s and early 80s at which time it was an incredibly rough county.

Nicaragua's President Juan José Estrada declared martial law after an explosion in Managua destroyed a large quantity of arms and ammunition.

Proclamation of Thanksgiving.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES HAVING DESIGNATED

Thursday, the 27th day of November, 1873,

As a day of Thanksgiving and Praise, I recommend the faithful observance of the day by all the people of Wyoming, in accordance with the usual and time-honored custom.

"GIVE THANKS UNTO THE LORD, FOR HE IS GOOD, FOR HIS MERCY ENDURETH FOREVER."

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the Great Seal of the Territory to be affixed. Done at Cheyenne, this, Fourth day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three.

Territorial Governor Campbell was of course a Republican, but not of the type that Republicans would now recognize.  He was a political liberal and a backer of women's suffrage.  He's served in the Union Army as a general during the Civil War and died in 1880 at the mere age of 44. 

After leaving his post as the Territorial Governor, he served in various capacities in the Federal government for the remainder of his short life.  Campbell County Wyoming is probably named after him, although there's some dispute on that.

Saturday, August 9, 1924. Summer events.

 

The 2nd World Scout Jamboree commenced in Denmark.

We noted the huge Seventh Day Adventist International Pathfinder Campfire Camporee being held in Gillette here just yesterday.

The Saturday magazines were out.

Colliers went with a cat making mischief image.

Everyone else seemed to go with a swimming theme.
