Today In Wyoming's History: January 8: 1926 Wyoming Pioneer Association incorporated.

It still exists.

Abdul-Aziz ibn Saud, Sultan of Nejd, was proclaimed King of Hejaz by the Public Assembly at the Grand Mosque of Mecca, brining Ibn Saud one step closer to being the King of Saudi Arabia, which he now effectively was.

Twelve year-old Prince Nguyễn Phúc Vĩnh Thụy was crowned as Emperor of Vietnam at Huế. He'd reign as Bảo Đại. He'd never be a popular monarch.

The Hassenfeld brothers formed Hasbro.

Friday, December 5, 1924. Shades of the modern Middle East

The Sultanate of Nejd, ruled by Abdulazia Ibn Saud defeated the Kingdom of Hejaz in Mecca itself. Hejazi forces remained thereafter only at the port of port of Jeddah.

The State of Syria (Dawlat Sūriyā) was created within the French Mandate for Syria by Decree No. 2980. This united the State of Aleppo and the State of Damascus under one common native assembly and administration.

Of course, in what was united, things are current disunited.

The State of Syria was smaller than contemporary Syria, in that it did not include the Alawite State.

The Italian fascists introduced legislation bringing about press censorship.

Wahhabi forces took Mecca.

The Boston Bruins were added to the formerly solely Canadian National Hockey League.

Lex Anteinternet?

This blog has been around since 2009. In the very first post, we asked the question: "What the heck is this blog about?"

Our answer to the question was: "The intent of this blog is to try to explore and learn a few things about the practice of law prior to the current era. That is, prior to the internet, prior to easy roads, and the like. How did it work, how regional was it, how did lawyers perceive their roles, and how were they perceived?"

We also noted: "Part of the reason for this, quite frankly, has something to do with minor research for a very slow moving book."

All of this is still true, but the focus of the blog has changed somewhat. It now focuses on the era from 1890 to 1920 in general, rather than on the law and lawyers specifically, although that may be far from obvious. It's also become the location where we comment on anything we feel moved to comment on.

We hope you'll feel moved to comment as well. While we moderate every comment, so as to weed out Spam, we greatly appreciate the comments where they are offered, and hope to see more.
