Today In Wyoming's History: November 3: 1936 Franklin D. Roosevelt re-elected in a landslide over Alfred M. ''Alf'' Landon.
Franklin Roosevelt took 60% of the Wyoming vote in 1936, up from 56% in 1932.
1936 Henry H. Schwartz, Democrat from Casper, elected to the U.S. Senate. Schwartz served one term and was defeated in his reelection bid. The Ohio born lawyer practiced law in Casper.
Henry H. Schwartz
Schwartz was part of a Democratic sweep, defeating incumbent Robert D. Carey.
Kansas born lawyer Paul Greever won reelection to Congress. Greever had relocated to Wyoming following World War One, in which he'd served.
A liberal, he lost his seat in the 1938 election and returned to the practice of law in Cody. He died of an accidental gunshot wound in 1943 at age 51.
All of these results are interesting in that Wyoming went solidly Democratic in 1936. It was in the thick of the Great Depression and Wyoming's voters, whom even then tended to go Republican (although less so than today) solidly rejected the GOP in favor of the Democrats.
