Setting the Clock Back.

It's 5:45 as I'm starting to write this.  My watch says it's 6:45.  I didn't change my watch last night as I was so busy yesterday, and I only realized that time had "fallen back" after I got up.

It's still dark.

Daylight Savings Time is idiotic. There's no reason in the modern world for it to continue to exist. There never was a good reason for it to exist.

It'll take me some time to adjust to the time change. And as the dog doesn't have a watch, it'll take time for him as well.

Natural time, which were back in, is batter.  For one thing, for those who have to go to school, work, etc., it's better to have it being dark at 5:45 (now 6:00) than the other way around. There might be some light as I get in the car to advance my day.  Maybe.

Trump, as we all know, wanted to keep Daylight Savings Time into the winter.  We were saved from that stupidity basically by one Senator, and ironically one that is normally in his camp.

On our companion blog, Lex Anteinternet, there's this story:

How To Start A Ranch From Scratch In Wyoming — Without Winning The Lottery

How To Start A Ranch From Scratch In Wyoming — Without Winning The Lottery

The headline is deceiving.  The article is not a "how to". Rather it follows some people who have entered the cattle industry by buying small numbers of livestock and building things up from there.

Here's another example of that approach:

The more power to them.

I wished I'd done that some 30 years ago.  I did the safe prudent thing instead.  It was a huge mistake.  But then my wife would have been pretty reluctant to take that path.

My wife is in that category of people right now who I find are really reluctant with me retiring in two months.

I haven't announced anything due to the titanic opposition, even though I know that in my heart of hearts I should stand up, hook up, and position myself in the door.

It's interesting how many people have opinions on this.one of my coworkers, whom I've talked to about retiring in December 2027, rather than December 2026, dreads it so much that she says she consciouisly avoid s thinking about it.  Another confided to a mutual friend that she fears that I'll retire.  She's apparently voiced the belief to the aforementioned coworker that I'll work until I"m 70.

I'm not going to do that.

Not deciding something is pretty much the same as deciding it.  Retiring by December 31 of this year is now pretty much impossible in my line of work.  That doesn't mean I'm not reconsidering doing that, however.

We've sometimes noted this here:

Chesterton is quite correct in his observation  It's funny, however, that while Americans like to say "you can't go back" (while a huge percentage of the country is in fact trying to go back to an imaginary past), the one thing they completely falsely believe is that they personally can go back.  In truth, the advance of life forecloses options continually.
