Thursday, October 3, 1901. Victorolas and the Episcopal Church.

Today In Wyoming's History: October 3: 1901  The Victor Talking Machine Company incorporated.

 A Victrola.

Delegates from the Diocese of Milwaukee and the Diocese of Colorado at the annual meeting of the clergy of the Episcopal Church of the United States, held in San Francisco, urged the church to change its name to "The American Catholic Church".

That's an interesting item in that it indicates that certain sections of the Episcopal Church were quite Anglo Catholic at the time.

Tuesday, October 1, 1901. My paternal grandfather born.

My paternal grandfather was born in Iowa, part of a large Westphalian American family that had immigrated to the U.S. in the 1840s.  He was one of 8 children and was their fourth child.

He went to work in 1912 in San Francisco, returning home to Iowa sometime after that, and then moving to Denver where he entered the meatpacking industry, his occupation for the rest of his life.  He died in 1949.

Rudyard Kipling's novel Kim was published in book form.
