Sunday, January 17, 1943. London bombed, Schenectady sinks.
The Luftwaffe made a night raid on London for the first time since May 1941, no doubt in retaliation for the RAF on Berlin, which had been the first in fourteen months.
The U.S. tanker Schenectady fell apart and sank in the Willamette.
