Wednesday July 16, 1919. 1919 Motor Transport Convoy, Bucyrus to Dephos, Ohio. 70 miles in 9 hours. Tolkien discharged.

The diarist for the expedition reported that "Every phase of the Convoy is functioning better as experience is accumulating", and the daily progress demonstrated that.  70 miles in 9 hours.

The mayor of Delphos gave the commander of the convoy the key to the city, which was a hydrant key.

Elsewhere, on this day in 1919 J. R. R. Tolkien was discharged from military service with a temporary disability.

For those who might wonder, "Tolkien" is a German name, as J. R. R. Tolkien descended from a German immigrant to London of the 1770s.
