Tuesday, March 17, 1942. Relocations, Grim Startups, Rationing

From Sarah Sundin's blog:
Today in World War II History—March 17, 1942: Britain begins rationing fuel and electricity, bans central heating during the summer. Gen. Douglas MacArthur is flown by B-17 from Mindanao to Australia.

MacArthur would be given command on this day of Allied forces in the southwest Pacific.

Bełżec death camp opened in occupied Poland.

The item about fuel rationing in the UK is an interesting one.  I would have thought it would have occurred much earlier than this.
