Tuesday, October 29, 1946. Giving up, getting, and using The Bomb.

Soviet Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov called for universal disarmament and the banning of all nuclear weapons at the United Nations.  He also hinted that the United States' monopoly on the atomic bomb might have ended, although it had not as of that time.

On the same day, Major General Lauris Norstad told President Truman that in the event of a Soviet invasion of Western Europe the only effective defense would be to use atomic bombs on seventeen Soviet cities.  The US only had the means of building nine such weapons at the time.
