Mob boss Earl J. "Hymie" Weiss (born Henryk Wojciechowski) was gunned down with fellow gang member Paddy Murray by hitmen working for Al Capone. The murders were in retaliation for an earlier attempt by the Weiss lead North Side Gang to kill Capone.
The Soviets announced that Trotsky, Grigory Zinoviev and Georgy Pyatakov would be placed on trial for being excessively critical of Communist Party decisions.
