Ukraine has retaken the Kinburn Spit which has been occupied by Russia for the entire war.

A Russian Army officers has released a public broadcast warning Putin that troops are on the edge of rebellion.

The Russian situation in Crimea is now dire. On the narrow land bridge to the mainland only military traffic is now moving and its severely impeded. Fuel has become so scarce that is no longer sold to civilians. About half of Crimea is without power. If Ukraine takes out the bridge to the mainland it will be disastrously isolated.

All this when Russian dead are about to reach the 1.5 million mark.

Ukraine, for its part, just launched an offensive.

In something that's fairly laughable, Donald Trump spoke to Vlad Putin and offered to help find a way to end the war.

Donny can't end the war he started and Russia is flat out losing the war against Ukraine. This war is more and more likely to see Ukraine regain all of its lost territory and Putin has to be increasingly worried about a revolution at home.

Trump appeared to agree to allow the Ukrainians to produce Patriot missiles in Ukraine.

His mind is such a pile of goo that it's difficult to know if this will occur or not.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy fired reformist defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov in a out right wierd move, given that Fedorov is the architect of the highly successful Ukrainian drone campaign against Russia. Understandably, mass protests have broken out.

Ukraine is forming a new government right now as Fedorov's firing was part of that. It was a bad move.

United States v. Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin

The US is considering military action against Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin, an Al Qaeda .

The situation in Mali is desperate, and complicated, as the country has turned to Russian mercenary groups to prop up its military government. Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin has been waging a somewhat successful terrorist campaign in the country.

Lex Anteinternet?

This blog has been around since 2009. In the very first post, we asked the question: "What the heck is this blog about?"

Our answer to the question was: "The intent of this blog is to try to explore and learn a few things about the practice of law prior to the current era. That is, prior to the internet, prior to easy roads, and the like. How did it work, how regional was it, how did lawyers perceive their roles, and how were they perceived?"

We also noted: "Part of the reason for this, quite frankly, has something to do with minor research for a very slow moving book."

All of this is still true, but the focus of the blog has changed somewhat. It now focuses on the era from 1890 to 1920 in general, rather than on the law and lawyers specifically, although that may be far from obvious. It's also become the location where we comment on anything we feel moved to comment on.

We hope you'll feel moved to comment as well. While we moderate every comment, so as to weed out Spam, we greatly appreciate the comments where they are offered, and hope to see more.
