Evidence that maybe somebody at your local paper isn't too familiar with some aspects of history . . .

Hmmm. . . . if that photo is right Sgt. Bellamy was in the Wehrmacht during World War Two. . . .

OMG. We've become a nation of dunces. idiots. How can you even graduate high school and think this is a US Soldier? I'm aghast.

One of my partners, whose father was in WWII, was stunned.

Proof, perhaps, of the actual existence of the long theorized, but assumed to be a myth and rumor, ODESSA:

"They used Germans who had been hired to drive U.S. Army trucks on the autobahn between Munich and Salzburg for the 'Stars and Stripes,' the American Army newspaper. The couriers had applied for their jobs under false names, and the Americans in Munich had failed to check them carefully... (the) ODESSA was organized as a thorough, efficient network... Anlaufstellen (ports of call) were set up along the entire Austro-German border... In Lindau, close to both Austria and Switzerland, (the) ODESSA set up an 'export-import' company with representatives in Cairo and Damascus"

Hmmm, probably not.

Actually, whoever that guy actually is, he was in the Heer, and I'm guessing the photo dates from 38-40. Based on the apparel, I'm guessing he was assigned to the German cavalry branch.

Definitely not the Vietnam Era U.S. Army.

I noted they didn't run that ad again today.
