IMPORTANT PRIMARY ELECTION INFORMATION REGARDING WYOMING’S CONGRESSIONAL RACES! The following are our recommendations for the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. 

Our recommendations are based on our knowledge of the candidates, especially their positions or voting records relating to public lands, conservation and wildlife.  Also important is their commitment to the democratic necessity of making decisions based on science and listening to their constituents, rather than strict adherence to party dogma. We hope you will seriously consider these recommendations which are derived, in part, from 10 years of administering this Facebook page. Note: an email address is provided for top candidates if you want to request a yard sign or assist with their campaign.

I've really been trying to decide whom I'm going to vote for, for Congress, with my decision so far split between Balow and Christensen. They're rating Balow a no/go.

Sunday, August 1, 1976. Flown out of Vietnam.

The United Nations High Commission on Refugees evacuated of 49 U.S. citizens and their dependents from Vietnam.

The 23 Americans, 14 Vietnamese spouses and 14 children had been stranded in the country after the fall of South Vietnam in 1975.

They were a mixed group. Most had remained in the country against their will, and three had been held in jail, while a few had plead to be allowed to remain in Vietnam.

Trinidad and Tobago became a republic.

The 1976 Summer Olympics ended.

A large-scale citizen uprising in Athens and Etowah Tennessee broke out over police corruption and voter intimidation. Organized veterans were the main figures in the uprising, and the result would permanently change the existing controlled and corrupt system in the region.

Returning GIs being reformers of corruption was a common feature of the post war U.S.

The Atomic Energy Commission was established.

The Fulbright Scholarship was created.

Scandinavian Airlines was founded as a consortium of the flag carriers of Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

Tuesday, August 1, 1876. Colorado admitted to the union. Today is Colorado Day.

Colorado was admitted into the union as a state. It was the 38th state.

My own family has a long association with Colorado. My father's grandfather moved to Leadville area to work as a miner right about this time. He switched to shopkeeping shortly thereafter. My grandmother and her siblings were born in Victor. My own father was born in Denver, which the family left shortly after he was of school age.

Lex Anteinternet?

This blog has been around since 2009. In the very first post, we asked the question: "What the heck is this blog about?"

Our answer to the question was: "The intent of this blog is to try to explore and learn a few things about the practice of law prior to the current era. That is, prior to the internet, prior to easy roads, and the like. How did it work, how regional was it, how did lawyers perceive their roles, and how were they perceived?"

We also noted: "Part of the reason for this, quite frankly, has something to do with minor research for a very slow moving book."

All of this is still true, but the focus of the blog has changed somewhat. It now focuses on the era from 1890 to 1920 in general, rather than on the law and lawyers specifically, although that may be far from obvious. It's also become the location where we comment on anything we feel moved to comment on.

We hope you'll feel moved to comment as well. While we moderate every comment, so as to weed out Spam, we greatly appreciate the comments where they are offered, and hope to see more.
