Tuesday, August 15, 1911. No to Arizona (and New Mexico) statehood.

President Taft vetoed the bill admitting Arizona and New Mexico into the Union.

The veto was aimed at Arizona's judicial recall provision, and New Mexico was simply a victim of being included in the same bill.
