The Casper Star Tribune rep...At least based on the reporting on this trial the 1868 treaty didn't actually come up much. Instead the defendant mostly relied upon his declaration that he had believed he was in Montana rather than Wyoming. That wouldn't really be a defense to the charge, but it was a smart strategy.
He was convicted but just received a year of unsupervised parole. All in all, probably a good result for everyone.
