February 13, 1941. Amsterdam's Jewish Quarter Sealed Off By the Germans.

A Federal photographer photographed the Sdhaefer Brewery.  At this point in time the brewery was located in Brooklyn and was privately owned.  The brand went public in the 1960s and today the label is owned by Pabst.  It was photographed on this day as part of a WPA project that seemingly photographed everything at random.

Germans ordered all non Jewish Dutch to leave Amsterdam's Jewish quarter following clashes between Jewish Dutch and German authorities and Dutch Nazis.  The event, noted here two days ago, was a rare instance of Jewish resistance to the Nazis prior to their uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto late in the war.

More on that event here:

The British warned Bulgaria that the presence of German troops there would lead to war with the United Kingdom.

Marshall Petain and Francisco Franco met in Montpellier, France.  Vichy France and Spain did not see eye to eye on things in spite of both being in the German orbit.  France was cooperating with Germany as it had no choice. Spain was as well, but not nearly to the extent that Germany would have liked.  Both nations had different interests in Morocco.

Day 532 February 13, 1941

Bluesman Fulton Allen, known as Blind Boy Fuller, died on this day at age 33.  Fuller was a famous Piedmont bluesman who had gone completely blind in his teenage years, by which time he was already married, and who had turned to music to support himself.  He had been plagued by ill health his entire life.
