Diplomats for the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Germany and Italy sent notes to the Chinese Foreign Ministry (the Zongli Yamen) requesting an imperial decree suppressing the Boxers and the Big Swords Society in Shandong and Zhili.

A Senate Committee voted unanimously to refer to Puerto Rico legally as "Porto Rico", rather than the name we normally use, which had been what President McKinley ordered it to be called via Executive Order.  Also, In the U.S. Treasurer was authorized to retire the Puerto Rican money in favor of U.S. coinage, at the rate of 60 cents per peso.

Hyman G. Rickover was born in Vistulaland to a Jewish Polish family.  He'd become the "Father of the Nuclear Navy" in the US, retiring well above the normal mandated retirement age in 1982.  He died in 1986.
