Wow, according to L'Actualite, the US will overtake Saudi Arabia as the world's leading producer of petroleum oil by 2020. And the boom there is creating 2,000 millionaires per year in North Dakota.
Headlines I never thought I would have seen.

I'm right in the middle of a whole bunch of drilling activity.
Horizontal drilling rigs are everywhere and it's supposedly been projected that there's going to be drilling going on under each and every section.
With all the pipelines also being put in, you would think that production is going to be a lot higher than in the past, until you realize that they are also putting in pipelines to get rid of all the salt water they're also producing (which isn't good).
I'm old enough to remember the drilling activity back in the '70's when they drilled about 2 wells on each quarter-section. Then they came through and plugged almost every one of those wells in the '90's when the oil price plummeted. It's happened before, so it can happen again. These new wells are eventually going to stop producing enough to be viable (which might be why they are planning to move the oil with pipelines instead of trucks).
So on the subject of the U.S. being the top producer in 2020, I'll believe it when I see it. And, if the U.S. does become the top producer, it's more likely to be because production from the oil fields in Russia and Saudi Arabia starts to drop significantly.
Besides all that, I can say that those horizontal drilling rigs are kinda impressive and are mighty interesting.
