Sunday August 10, 1941. Attending services

On this day in 1941 Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill attended shipboard services.

Roosevelt and Churchill were both co-religious, both being members of churches in the Anglican Communion. Roosevelt was Episcopalian and Churchill a member of the Church of England.  Interestingly, Churchill was nonobservant but personally had very conventional morals, whereas Roosevelt was observant but had at least one long-standing illicit affair.

Barely visible on the left side of the photograph is George C. Marshall.  The 1901 VMI graduate was also an Episcopalian, as was the eclectic polymath, George Patton.
